Well it has been a very cold winter here in south Florida. We had 2 straight weeks of temperatures hovering in the low 30′s and upper 20′s. I know you people up north are saying “poor things…” but really, that is very cold for this area and it had a terrible effect on the local fish populations here.
It killed most of the bait fish in the rivers and the bay at first but then the water dropped to below 48 degrees and it started killing the larger species such as Snook, Amber Jack, Flounder, and even some Redfish.
As a result, the fishing has been very poor here for the last 6 weeks or so.
As some of you know I do most of my fishing / gigging at night and last night was great. The Flounder had moved backed in and we actually got our limit of 20 for 2 people. Something I have not done in over a year of gigging.
So anyway just thought I would share my excitement with you.
Thanks for reading!

Please practice catch and release whenever possible and remember the large fish don’t taste any better than smaller ones. Take a picture and let the big ones go back to catch again later.
